Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this research is to identify the relationship among health promoting behavior, perceived health status, depression, wisdom, and health conservation, clarify the factors that influence on health conservation, and provide fundamental resources for improvement of life and maintenance of health status of middle-aged women. Methods/Statistical Analysis: As for research design, it is the secondary data analysis research in the use of data of middle-aged women among resources collected for the influencing factors on health conservation of middle-aged adults by Lee & Kim. Subjects were 84 middle-aged women residing in the city of C or D. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Findings: there was a statistically significant correlation on health promoting behaviors and health conservation, perceived health status and health conservation, depression and health conservation, and wisdom and health preservation of middle-aged women. As for factors that influenced on health conservation, wisdom was 42.7% followed by 8.4% for health promoting behaviors, 3.4% for depression, and 2.8% for perceived health status. Total explanatory power on health conservation of them was 57.3%. Applications/Improvements: Considering wisdom, health promoting behaviors, perceived health status, and depression that were known as predictive factors for health conservation of middle-aged women, it is suggested to develop the nursing mediation for improving health conservation. Especially, wisdom of those in middle age was closely related to health. Depression was confirmed to be a variable to be dealt with for women unlike men. It is suggested to repeat the research about health conservation of middle-aged women to clarify predictive variables other than what was revealed in the results of this study. It is also recommended that nurses utilize results of this study in the practice in local community and help improve health conservation of middle-aged women.

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of the study is to analyze predictive factors that influence subjective happiness to provide basic data about improvements in quality of life in old age and successful senescence. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The research method is a descriptive research study. The subjects were 150 solitary elderly women over the age of 65 living in D gu, D metropolitan city and data collection was done for 5 weeks from August 8, 2016 to September 9, 2016 and analysis was done through descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Findings: Between subjective happiness, Pain (r=-.502, p<.001), Suicidal ideation (r=-.507, p<.001), and Disabilities in daily living (r=-.535, p<.001) showed statistically significant level to average negative correlation and Depression (r=-.800, p<.001) showed high negative correlation. Between subjective happiness, Perceived health status (r=.587, p<.001), and Social support (r=.709, p<.001) showed average simple correlation. Factors influencing subjective happiness was in the order of Depression (B=-.059, p=.000), Social support (B=.011, p=.003), Disabilities in daily living (B=-.111, p=.004), and Age (B=.126, p=.009), with the total explanatory power of 70.3%. Improvements/Applications: To improve subjective happiness in solitary elderly women and for them to lead a successful life in later years, there needs to be emotional support, establishment of social support system, and development of intervention to reduce disabilities in daily life.

Abstract

Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the effect that the self-efficacy and emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills of nurses at geriatric hospitals have on their practice of geriatric care. Methods/Statistical Analysis: A questionnaire was distributed to 165 nurses working at 9 geriatric hospitals located in city D and regions C and K regions with 200 or more hospital beds. Data was collected from September 15 to December 31, 2014. Using IBM SPSS/WIN 20.0 program, frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients and Multiple regression were analyzed. Findings: Results showed that the practice of geriatric care of nurses at geriatric care had a positive correlation with self-efficacy (r = .47, p<.001), emotional intelligence (r = .56, p<.001) and interpersonal skills (r = .39, p<.001) and the factors that had the most significant effect on the degree of practice, in descending order were emotional intelligence, self-efficacy and age. Explanatory power was 32.4%. Applications/Improvements: With an aging society and a rapid increase in the number of geriatric hospitals, continued studies are recommended to identify predictive factors for geriatric nursing practice in order to realize higher quality geriatric care. Development of programs to improve self-efficacy and emotional intelligence that can, in turn, enhance geriatric nursing practice, is recommended. The age of subjects was identified as a factor affecting geriatric nursing practice. Therefore, measures to draw nurses who have temporarily retired and are reluctant to re-enter the work force back in the field should be developed. Therefore, in order to increase the level of practice, development and application of programs that can enhance emotional intelligence and self-efficacy are needed.

Abstract

Objectives: The purposes of this research are to examine the relationship among perceived health status, self-efficacy, lifestyle habits, wisdom and health conservation, and to analyze the effects of perceived health status, self-efficacy, lifestyle habits, and wisdom on health conservation. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Subjects of this research are 135 middle-aged women of 40~64 years old residing in C city and M city. They were given copies of the questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Findings: There were statistically significant relationship between health conservation and the following independent variables: perceived health status (r=.327, p<.001), self-efficacy (r=.475, p<.001), lifestyle habits (r=.411, p<.001), and wisdom (r=.647, p<.001). The relative explanatory powers of independent variables in descending order are as follows: wisdom 39.6%, lifestyle habits 6.0%, living level 3.8%, education 2.3%, self-efficacy 1.8%, and exercise 1.6%. In total, those variables explained 53.6% of health conservation. Applications/Improvements: Considering elements found to be influential in improving health conservation of middle-aged women- wisdom, lifestyle habits 6.0, living level, education, and self-efficacy-nursing mediation should be developed. It is also necessary to search for other elements which can help predict health conservation. In particular, as wisdom was found to be a crucial element in improving health conservation, this research suggests that programs be developed and repetitive researches be done to enhance the wisdom.
